I just wanted to thank you for an excellent demo last Saturday for the ASA. I know that some of the members thanked you in person but I also recieved some very positive comments...
"One of the best demos i've seen in a while"
"Excellent demo - so informative and enjoyable"
"I do a lot of pastel painting but i've really learnt a thing or two today"
"Paul was very good at explaining what he was doing and why. Each stage of the painting was demonstrated so well with Paul showing the different techniques he uses. Very helpful"
"I thouroughly enjoyed that....(demo).....and feel inspired to pick up my pastels again"
For myself - I really enjoyed watching and listening to you while you worked. I thought you were very generous in the amount of information and techniques that you shared. The almost finished painting was lovely. You created a really snowy scene with atmosphere.
Perhaps you should move into creating DVD's !!!
Thanks once again.
"Thanks so much for last night's demo, our members were fascinated to see the hydrangea heads literally grow in front of their eyes!
Much interest was shown in seeing more of your work, and I will keep encouraging our members to visit Vernon Mill. Please send me details / flyers for future exhibitions, so I can pass on the info.
I particularly appreciated your running commentary, not only on what you were doing, but why you were doing it.
Whilst it's understandable that some demonstrating artists go very quiet when engrossed in their painting, you kept us fully informed throughout, and I hope the PA headset wasn't too uncomfortable or distracting!"

"Full-time artist Paul Pigram gave an excellent demonstration of pastel painting, using a photograph of a rural woodland scene. This was a fascinating evening as Paul gave an informative and lively commentary throughout the demonstration and the resulting picture, though unfinished, was an attractive and
accomplished work of art.
This was an excellent, lively demonstration which certainly
showed the potential of pastel painting for those of us who
haven't tried it.
Many thanks Paul for a memorable
demonstration - thoroughly enjoyable!"
BLACKBURN ARTISTS SOCIETY
"A very informative demonstration of a well thought out landscape, professionally carried out with a full explanation of materials used and methods.
We will certainly invite Paul to return."
HEATONS ART GROUP
"Thank you very much for visiting us today - we had a full turnout (except one, who's on a cruise!) and everyone said how much they had enjoyed it. They all seem to do quite well with soft pastels.
Once again, thank you very much for a very enjoyable afternoon!"

Paul’s delivery was excellent.
We appreciated the way he outlined what we should be aiming for, his directives on the use of materials, his guidance on how to make the marks and gestures to achieve the desired effects and his willingness to find time to give novices like ourselves some one-to-one attention.
The materials which you provided were a pleasure to work with. The venue was superb and the organisation of the day was most professionally executed.
Full marks all round !
Still reeling from yesterdays workshop. Absolutely great ,you're a great teacher and brilliant the way you conduct your workshops so all students get great support and tuition I'm sure you must be very proud of how and what you achieve with your students.
Delighted with my finished picture and loved the whole experience of using pastels Your work is beautiful and I have already learned so much from you - not forgetting the wonderful venue and food!!
I would like to buy the Autumn and Winter palette and also 4 sheets of card as I'm looking forward to getting going!
Many many thanks for all your support, tuition and encouragement with pastel painting I'm sure I'll be coming to future workshops !
With all good wishes, Sue.
Thank you for a great day of art today at Stockport
I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop AND got so much out of it.
I have been to a lot of workshops and on many occasion have nearly give up trying to return to art.
Today was just fabulous lovely people and fabulous workshop.
You have really got it right.
Look forward to seeing you in November.
"Last night I attended a demonstration at Bolton Art Circle by Paul Pigram - Pastel Artist.
He showed us his approach to creating a beautiful landscape: a river meandering towards a distant lake with background mountains and a stunning sky.
I learnt to push the pastels to create texture in the painting e.g. upwards where there are grasses and around to create the clouds. He blocked in first and then created the details (using pastel pencils for the finer work). Finally constant adjustment to get those darks and lights contrasting and hitting the eye.
I think you'll agree that this picture is

"When I arrived at the workshop, I was very impressed by the way everything was organised. All I had to do was sit down at the easel and begin.
Everything was laid out easily to hand.
The easel was already taped with sanded card
A box of pastels with all the colours I would need
A colour photo of the summer scene we were going to work from
A black & white drawing of the photo prepared for tracing onto the card
Even baby wipes & paper towels!
By the end of the day, I felt that my pastel technique had improved greatly and I had learned in a relaxed and supportive environment. I was learning without realising I was learning.
I now feel inspired to carry on with pastel drawing on my own and can remember loads of the tips and tricks that Paul taught me to enable me to produce pictures that I can be proud of.
I am also looking forward to attending more of Paul’s workshops. I think that he is an excellent teacher who inspires his pupils."
Thank you Paul!
